Jerry’s Success Story

Jerry B. Usanga, — Young volunteer in C4CD —

Jerry is from Mbiatuk Itam in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, he has taken part in one of our membership programmes. Here he shares some of his C4CD experience….

“I am not going to say that before C4CD I was bizarre and wayward but, this experience helped bring a significant change in me. Before, I was a very shy person, I didn’t have confidence in myself and always had the attitude that anything I wanted to do was impossible. Now I feel like I can do things that I thought was impossible, like becoming an undergraduate student in information technology.”

In school, when people were having discussion, I felt I had valid points to add to the discussion but never had the courage to say them—whereas now I can express my views without hesitation. Through different self-development programmes, C4CD has helped me to make the right decisions. They helped steer me away from things like drugs and highlighted the dangers accompanied with them. I am very excited and really enjoy my time as a volunteer member—I believe I now have the skills to do lots of things; I socialised, met new people and made new friends.

As a member of C4CD, I continued my studies in the polytechnic and recently completed my final diploma exams in computer science. I plan to go to University for a post graduate degree programme overseas. There are a lot more to be achieved with C4CD support and guidance”.
